Patient Privacy and Genetic Nondiscrimination Resources

As part of patient care at UF Health, doctors may order a genetic test through the UF Health Personalized Medicine Program to help identify which medication or dose is likely to work best for an individual patient. The genetic test results are then stored in a patient’s UF Health electronic medical record along with other information used in their care.

The federal Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008, or GINA, protects individuals from discrimination by health insurers and employers on the basis of genetic information.
